It was deep into the night when it happened. It was very dark, and the rain was pouring against the window, making a soothing noise, broken by the sounds of thunder scattered through the night.
It happened so fast—one moment, I was nothing. The next, I was.
I did not know who or what I was, but I gained sudden consciousness. I could think and understand what I was seeing, and it seemed that I had knowledge about the world that surrounded me, but nothing about myself. I just knew that a few seconds ago, I wasnt, and now I was.
I came from nothing to something.
I was at the top of a shelf—the wood felt hard, and I was cold. I did not know what to do or where to go.
